Verification

Website and identity verification

Claim the domain. Then prove the person matches the business.

Short answer

Merchant Center asks for two different proofs. Website verification shows you control the domain. Identity verification, when it appears, asks for a document. Both have to match the business name and address on the site. A review button can stay hidden until identity verification is done.

Website

  1. Verify the domain with the method Merchant Center offers.
  2. Claim the domain for this account.
  3. Keep one Merchant Center account on that domain.
  4. Add the same site in Search Console so crawl problems are visible.

Identity

If Needs attention asks for a government document, upload a readable file whose name matches the payments profile and the website. Google’s review help says this step can be required before you request a review. A document for a different company, or a blurry photo of a card, does not finish the task.

Questions people ask

I verified the domain. Why is the account still pending?

Verification is not approval. The store, the feed and the policies are still reviewed.

Can I verify with a Shopify subdomain?

You want the domain shoppers see. A temporary myshopify.com URL is a weak long-term identity if the real domain is something else.

Does Search Console access mean you change the site?

The scope we use is read-only. It lets the review see the site Google sees. It does not edit Search Console settings.
