Misrepresentation
Google Merchant Center misrepresentation
It is rarely one broken title. It is the set of details Google compares.
Misrepresentation is a Shopping policy against offers that are not accurate, realistic and truthful, and against checkouts that hide the terms. Google treats it as serious and can suspend the Merchant Center account when it detects a violation. The fix is to make the business, the policies and the products agree, then request a review.
What the policy is looking at
Google says it may look at the promotion, the website, the accounts and third-party sources. In practice the failures we see are ordinary:
- A business name, address or phone that changes between the footer, the contact page and Merchant Center.
- Shipping or returns that read one way on the site and another way in the account settings.
- A price or availability in the feed that the landing page does not show.
- Fake urgency, unsupported reviews, or a checkout that adds costs the product page hid.
- A catalog that looks like several stores glued together.
Dropshipping and Shopify
Dropshipping is not automatically misrepresentation. A store becomes hard to trust when the delivery promise, the returns address and the brand on the page cannot be checked. Shopify stores add a second trap: the theme, the policies and the Google channel can each hold a different version of the same fact. Read the dropshipping and Shopify notes.
Before the appeal
Work the checklist or mark the 144 points. Google’s October 2025 clarification added examples around non-delivery and return processes that do not work. That is not a new idea. It is a reminder that a policy page nobody can use still counts.
Questions people ask
What does a Merchant Center misrepresentation suspension mean?
Google found that the store, the product feed and the policies do not tell the same story. It is rarely one broken title. It is the set of details Google compares.
Can I appeal a misrepresentation suspension the same day?
You can request a review when Merchant Center offers the button and any identity check it asked for is done. Appealing before the mismatches are fixed spends the attempt.
Is there a free misrepresentation checker?
The [checklist on this site](/free-audit/) is free to mark. It does not log into the store. The paid audit, from $499, runs the points on your Shopify store.
