Store name

Invalid store name

One public name. The same spelling in Shopify and Merchant Center.

Short answer

Invalid store name means the name Merchant Center is using does not match the store people see, or it breaks Google’s rules for that field. On Shopify, check the store name, the domain, and the business name in Merchant Center. Pick the name you are willing to print in the footer and use that spelling everywhere.

Make one name

  • The Shopify store name.
  • The name in Merchant Center business information.
  • The logo text, if the logo contains a name.
  • The footer and the about page.

Avoid a name that is only a keyword, a claim you cannot prove, or another company’s brand. After you change it, confirm the domain is still claimed by this account. A rename that points the feed at a different URL looks like a new, unclaimed site.

Questions people ask

Can the store name differ from the legal company name?

The store name can be the trading name. The legal name still has to be visible on the site and consistent with the documents, if Google asks for them.

I changed the name and the error stayed.

Feeds and caches lag. Check you edited the account Google is actually reviewing, not a second Merchant Center.

Does the domain have to contain the name?

It has to make sense next to the name. A random domain on a branded store is one of the catalog-structure points in the review.
