Misrepresentation on Shopify
The theme, the policies and the channel have to say the same thing.
Shopify stores get misrepresentation suspensions for the same reason as any other store: Google cannot reconcile the shop. The extra Shopify twist is that the fact can live in three places: the theme, Settings → Policies, and the product feed going to Merchant Center. Editing one of them leaves the other two behind.
The usual split
- A policy page designed in the theme, while Shopify’s policy settings still hold the old text.
- A product price that includes a compare-at price the feed submits as the price people pay.
- Markets or currencies that show one country a price the feed does not have.
- A store name in Shopify that is not the name claimed in Merchant Center. See invalid store name.
- An unpublished or password-protected page that the feed still uses as the landing URL.
What the review connects
The app reads the Shopify store, Merchant Center and Search Console. It does not connect Google Ads or Analytics. From $499 the audit lists every point that needs work, including the ones that only show up when the theme and the feed are read together.
Questions people ask
Does the Google & YouTube channel prevent misrepresentation?
It syncs products. It does not check whether your returns page, footer and payments profile agree.
Should I edit the theme or the policy settings?
Both, until they match. A beautiful returns section that Shopify’s own policy URL contradicts is still a mismatch.
Are non-Shopify stores covered?
The app connects Shopify only.
